This is a work-in-progress of my homage to Hayao Miyazaki for a CGHub contest. We are to create an illustration inspired by one of his films, which were pre-selected by the moderators (Princess Mononoke/Spirited Away/Howl's Moving Castle). The main requirement is that it's only meant to be an inspired piece and in no way should be fan art.
Here's my take (roughly):
A lone character accidentally enters a portal that takes them into a mysterious world where buildings are alive and there is an eerie disposition about the place.
The building on the left is The Sad Prince, who was cursed by a witch after mistreating her and has since been forever designated to hold up the building without rest. The one on the right is the Tea House where the tray the girl is holding acts as a balcony for customers to rest on. I'm thinking about making some other ones based on animals but haven't developed the story too much yet.
.....if it isn't that obvious, mine is influenced by Spirited Away. ;P
