Here's some stuff I've been working on. It started off with a simple biro sketch of a merman which I later developed in attempt to design one that's more anatomically viable than typical interpretations.
He's a soldier merman so I tried to make him strong with practical features such as starfish-like hands so he has better grip on weapons etc. I haven't explored many pattern designs yet but have the face down so far (settled for a hammerhead shape as it would be more practical for fighting).
^ I played around with different shapes to find something distinctive and appropriate
(most are ridiculous but you'll never know what might work until you try, right? ;P)
I liked the bottom right version too but felt it was too 'individual' for a loyal soldier breed
who would fight en masse and that it isn't as functional as the hammerhead shape.
These will be on my site when I finish the whole lot. Feel free to leave crits! :)

I also designed an extra page describing the layout and gameplay possibilities and another one of reference material but don't see much point of putting them online.
Re-organising my portfolio took a lot longer than expected but it's pretty much done now so I can get back on track. New concepts coming soon. :)

I've recently designed a logo which is derivative of my initials (albeit the 'H' is a bit obscure!):

Left: Standard logo
Right: Avatar for forums etc.
Ultimately, I wanted a shape that's distinctive and would read well from a distance, as all good logos should be capable of. I also designed a new dragon motif for my website 'cause it's my Chinese zodiac and I'm Asian. Yup, I'm all sorts of cool~ ;P

As for the banner, I played around with different ideas, first aiming for a Norse pattern
but later developed the dragon design instead with an additional border detail.

I made some Linzer cookies for my family this year with customised boxes and Christmas cards. :) Initially, I wanted to design a range of ninja cards like before but didn't have time so everyone else got robin ones instead.
The completed boxes were printed on card and then cut/scored to shape before I folded them into place. I traced over a box my dad saved for me and changed the seal from heart-shaped pieces to holly leaves on Adobe Illustrator. Each side contains a short message which eventually reads, "Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year | Best Wishes, Naomi xxx".
The recipe for the cookies can be found here. They're delicious!

To the right is a plain alternative 'cause I ran out of blue card and
the brown one was too thick to go through the printer. ;(
